Starting Out
They main point of to success is making sure you are using the correct character to begin with. You’ll need to look at your own personal strengths and make sure that they are a good fit with the skills of a hunter. The hunter class gives the player an image of tracking down animals and shooting them, however the hunter is much more than this. It can be tricky playing this class as the hunter has definite strengths and weaknesses.
What a hunter excels at: Ranged warfare, including the use of bows, guns or crossbows. They are incredibly effective at dispatching their enemies with these means. Other skills the hunter has are used in tracking and survival. The use of pets for this class means that the pet can absorbed much of the damage from an attack, leaving you with more time to play. An issue arising in lower levels can be that the hunter is unable to acquire armor until level 40 and so one difficulty the hunter encounters is Melee fighting. Click here for more: Hunter Leveling Guide
Understanding what the hunter can and can’t do allows you to concoct a strategy for attacking enemies. Keeping distance from danger allows for greater chance of victory. For a hunter it is important to arm yourself with a pet, they enable you to melee fight and absorb any damage. As the hunter stands back and causes damage, the pet can get in close.
Your hunter and choosing the right profession
Now that you’ve decided to play this class, you’re going to need to pick a profession that meshes well with a hunter’s innate abilities. Your best bet is going to be the combination of skinning and leatherworking since this will enable you to make your own armor. Another great combination of professions are skinning and mining, as these will enable you to buy weapons and armor. The professions that really don’t mesh well with a hunter are alchemy, tailoring or enchanting.
The other classes may find these professions extremely useful, where as the hunter gains no benefit. Herbalism on the other hand can be used for making potions to enable healing and quite a good profession in this respect. Gaining a pet on the other hand can also aid with melee fighting and herbalism takes a back seat.
The Use of Weapons
As we mentioned previously, the hunter shines at ranged warfare. You’re going to want to concentrate on bows and crossbows, or if you have the skill, guns as well. When you first start out, you’ll get a pretty basic bow, but you can purchase a more effective one as you progressive through the levels that will earn you more ability and help you become more accurate. There are also many ranged weapons that you can earn as you complete quests. For more information on our WoW Hunter Guide follow the link.
