In the last time I often heard the question which Shaman build is the best for leveling a character 1-80. Many players want to know if they can level their Shaman with the Elemental spec.
Here’s my personal point of view: The Elemental spec is a no-go for any character below level 60. You shouldn’t even consider going after the Elemental tree until you exceed at least level 57.
Now you might be wondering why I the Elemental shamen build is not suited for lower level characters. The talent build is a caster build and requires both mana and spell damage to increase your leveling potential.
To increase your mana-pool, mana-regeneration, spell damage and critical hit chance you need a neat shaman gear with the right stats on every item. But in the old world you will hardly find any of those items. While many items have tons of strength and agility, some even crit rating, all the other needed attributes are missing more often than not. All in all there are very few items available that support casters sufficiently.
Sure, you can just visit an instance and try to collect the loot there. But you will spend a lot time there and your leveling speed decreases dramatically.
The Elemental tree becomes a great option after level 60 and more of the world opens up to you.
For every player below level 60 I highly recommend to spec the Enhancement Shaman build. It requires a lot less mana and you can still deal amazing damage with your melee skills – especially dual-wielding and elemental weapons!
Don’t make the mistake to choose a talent build that you will find absolutely not gear for. The Elemental fun can begin once you quickly get to level 60 using the Enhancement spec. You can have a lot of fun with the Elemental tree once you reach the high level areas and – of course – in the endgame content.
