Tips on how to take night photographs
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on November 14th, 2009
One of the hardest shots to take is night shots. That would be the case when you do not have any ideas on what to do with your cameras. But if you have some idea then you can take great photos. On the other hand if you don’t know what you are doing it will look ugly. So here are some tips for you so you can be a better photographer at night. If you follow them you will happy at the kind of photos you take.
First of all, I hate to say it but equipment matters. In other words, you can’t expect a mere point-and-click camera to take great night shots. It does not have the capability to do that. As a San Diego wedding photographer I have had to learn that only cameras made to take photos at night will work.It doesn’t mean that you shoud have a camera that is specifically made for night shots but you should look for a camera that can shoot in the dark. This one tip is not free and could be very expensive. But as soon as you can buy a well-equipped camera then that would be the start of your taking great night photos.
Second tip I would give is to not over-rely on the flash of your camera. If you have taken any night shots you will know what I am talking about. It is something I had to learn as a San Diego photographer not to rely on the flash.Instead, use your camera’s features and use it well.Learn the capabilities and limitations of your camera. This will be of big help to beginners since they can pre-program their cameras to take good shots at certain circumstances.
Last tip is to use a lens that reduces camera shake.Having the experience of taking photos in a lot of events made me realize this problem. So doing San Diego event photography has helped me gain experience. I have found that using a special lens reduces this shake. This will allow you to take crisper night time photos.
So, that is it. If you follow these tips you are sure to take better night shots.
Making the subject of your photos look nice

People always classify themselves either as photogenic or not.So they may look good at photos. While others think they do not look good in photos. Well in this article I will point out some tips to make everyone look great. Because how people come out isn’t dependent upon them.It depends on the photographer’s ability to bring out their photogenic side.So if you follow the steps that we will be talking about in this article everyone would love the outcome of their looks in photos.
First of all in my service as a San Diego wedding photographer everyone needs to look good. You won’t have satisified clients if they won’t like what they will see in the photos. So if you want satisfied clients learn these tips. The first one is use soft lighting. Soft lighting is using cloudy days or indirect window light. Soft lighting will help to reveal your subject’s features in a flattering way.
Employing simple backgrounds for your subjects is the next tip. Especially if you are doing wedding photos that is something that is hard to do. But in my San Diego event photography service it is something that must be done. If you are able to keep distractions out of the shot you can have the shot focus more on the subject.
Paying more attention to the position of the heads and the hands of the subjects would be the next tip.Not being able to do so would make the look of your subject very awkward. This is especially important for my San Diego commercial photographer service. The last thing you want is to be taking photos for a corporate shoot and have the subject look uncomfortable.
So follow these few tips and you will truly appreciate how your pictures come out.But on top of that your clients would love you and your shots because they look great in them.

Sure, the cameras of today make it easy to take photos. But to take photos that can be memorable one must have skill.Fortunately, this skill can be acquired and one can learn and practice it.So here are some tips in developing that skills.
Just like in school or anything that requires skills, one must practice. In my San Diego wedding photographer business that is what has helped me get better in taking wedding shots. So, in order to practice yourself you must be willing to take photos in every opportunity. If you go to a wedding take photos of the wedding. Take shots that a wedding photographer normally would take. You can then compare it to what the real photographer took.
You should also practice taking shots at different times of the day. As a San Diego photographer we get plenty of sunshine. But even in daylight you must still know how to manipulate the sunshine for your photo’s benefit.By practicing some shots at different times of day you will learn what shots work and what does not. As you get better you can really capture great shots based upon the time of day.
Going to big events is another great way to practice your camera skills. Events like a county fair.Or you can attend sporting events. Even a child’s soccer game is a great event to take pictures. Advice on how to find a very good wedding photgrapher

The wedding day is one of the most special days for anybody. Most women have been dreaming of this day since they were still children. For the men it is the day when they can finally say that they got the women of their dreams. With it being so special there are so many important jobs to make that day special. One of those heavy tasks is given to the wedding photographer. You should hire a good and talented one since it is one, if not, the most important job during a wedding. So how can you do that?
Well as a San Diego wedding photographer I have seen the ways couples have gone about trying to choose ones. Here are key points to look at when deciding and this is from my experience as a wedding photographer.
First of all you have to anticipate your budget. It doesn’t do you any good to find someone you like but can’t afford them. So first decide your budget and once you know that you can narrow your choices. Of course since it is such a special day my opinion as a San Diego photographer is to now worry about price.Price should not be an object since we are talking about a photgrapher here that would capture the most magical day of a couples life. But if price is a deciding factor then you should be able to determine your budget for hiring one.Once you determine your budget then it would be easier to look for a photographer.
After you have already determined the amount of money that you will spend on a photographer then it is time to look for one meticulously. It is just like in any kind of jobs.If you have a business and you are looking for someone to work with you would you just immediately hire someone that you encounter? Of course you wouldn’t and neither should you with hiring a photographer for the job.You would want to know if you are compatible personality wise. You would want to look at his/her work. And from my experience as an event photographer San Diego, you want to see how much experience they have dealing with weddings. If you do a round of interviews you will definitely find the photographer you are looking for.
Wedding photographers part on that special day
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on October 10th, 2009
One of the most special events for a person would be his or her wedding day. Usually it is made out to be the bride’s special day.But this day is also important for the groom as well. That day is special due to a lot of things. One part of a wedding that is not always given attention to is the photographer.
Their part in making that day memorable is a huge one. I know for a fact from my first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer.Because the main job of a photographer is to capture that event. Those moments should be forever captured on a film. The photos would be the way to remember the events that happened on that fateful day. And only a photograph can capture those moments in time.
What else does a photographer contribute? They contribute to turning that wedding day into a story.A photo shoot that is planned and conceptualized early would result to a very good wedding album. Perfectly captured photos turns that photo album into a beautiful story.Good shots will be able relive the events to a person who wasn’t at that special day. So with that in mind you need a San Diego photographer who can really accomplish that type of job.But you must also decide if that is what you really want. All of us can just use our cameras then point and click. But you want a photographer with an artistic flair as well.
A final thing a photographer can do is make it an event. In my photography practice my work is called event photography, because all occassions should be captured as an event, and a good event photography San Diego service should be able to do that. Not just simple shots. But shots that seems to be bigger than life.
I hope that by now you would see the importance of a photographer during a wedding. Pick a good one who can contribute to that special day.Someone who can make it seem like the events that happened are those events that only happen in a happy ending story. Because when you look back at it, that day should be.
How to Take better Candid Photos
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on August 1st, 2009
Taking pictures of people go into two categories. They are either portraits or candids.
Portraits are the shots when your subjects are in poses. While the candids are usually when your subject is doing something natural.
I would like to focus on taking shots that are candid. There is an art to this form of photography and if you follow these few steps, you will be pleased with your work. This is from my experience as a San Diego Photographer.
First off you don’t want to get in the way. Most candid shots you take of course are going to be people going about their business, but the secret to taking a great shot like that is to make sure they are unaware of the shot.
Because often, if you let them notice you, you will miss the essence of that unguarded shot.So be diligent in making sure they don’t know about the camera.
Another thing to consider is the setting or the environment. When you are taking a candid shot, the setting plays a vital role. You want the candid shot to capture the subject and their setting as naturally as possible. It’s that setting
whether is is their house, their work, or the street they are on, will tell a story about your subject’s life. This is especially important if you are going to be taking shots as a Wedding Photographer San Diego.
A third thing to consider or do is anticipating behavior. An important part to being able to take candid photos of people who are acting naturally is to know what your subject will do next in a situation.
This will help you if you are trying to catch something in particular because it will allow you to be prepared rather than miss the shot. Knowing how they will react and being able to capture that is all about anticipation.
Finally, always be on the lookout for those moments when a person’s emotion will be expressed.Because if you think about it, when you take these photos, the main thing is trying to capture their emotions in these shots.
Look at what your subject is doing and see if it will be a moment that will express emotion. Such as an impatient expression at a stoplight.Or a happy expression at an event.Every second in time is an opportunity to capture a moment of beautiful emotion.Being alert of those moments will enable you to capture that moment in time that tells a story.
Taking shots that are candid is an art form in and of itself.Especially if you really want your candid photos to tell a story. Following these few simple steps will help you be on the road of capturing as many storytelling moments as possible as a photographer.
Lighting Tips to Help You Take Better Pictures
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on June 24th, 2009
In this age of digital cameras, you have probably thought that you can just point and shoot and out will appear a great shot.Hold on, don’t go so fast. The truth is you can have the top of the line digital camera, but if you don’t know what you are doing, you will take lousy shots.
Well, I would like to share with you some great tips on improving your digital photography skills. These tips are coming from years of experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. These tips are about using lighting and they will be some of the best advice and keys to your success in taking great photos.
First great tip in regards to lighting. Now if you are taking shots outdoors during the day, natural sunlight provides some of the best lighting possible. Now you are probably thinking, “that’s easy, when you are a San Diego photographer since it is always shiny there”, when in actuality really bright sunlight can cast harsh shadows. Or it can wash out the details in faces if the sun is overhead.
Overall, what you will want to do is to have the sun behind you when you take most of the shots. This eliminates any harsh shawows from effecting your shot from the sun. But there will be some instances when you want to try different angles when you are trying to get some shadows into the shots.
Now that we know what to do during the day shots, what if you have to take some night shots?
The key to taking photos at night is turning off your flash.Of course if it is absolutely dark with no light you wil need it, but for times when there is some lighting, use the lighting around you, but make sure the shutter speeds are slow enough to let light in.Also, stay steady when you are taking your photograph or you will cause the picture to blur.Applying these couple of techniques will make a dramatic difference for those nights shots you take.
The third and final tip with using lighting to capture great photos is the golden hour. There is this time that photographers like to call the golden hour or magic hour, and that is sunrise and sunset.
These times of day you wll be able to capture great shots because you will get the more warmer and inviting colors. You’re going to be able to capture the golden lighting you won’t find during any other part of the day.
There you have it.Probably the biggest tip in taking beautiful photos is to make use of the natural lighting around you. Knowing what techniques to use for different parts of the day, or just scheduling a photo shoots to capture those times of day will help you become an excellent photographer.
Wedding Photography tips

When you are asked to be the one to take photos of the wedding is a huge responsibility. If you are doing it as a favor, or if you are doing it as your profession, following these 5 tips will help you do the job right.
This tips are coming from first hand experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned pro, or if you are an amateur, by following these tips, you won’t second guess yourself. You will be ready for whatever may happen.
Our first tip is easy and that is to have the couple and maybe their families make a list of photos they want to take. When you know the day will be hectic and chaotic, doing this will help you get the family and group shots later on in the day more smoothly.Imagine how wonderful it will be to just go down your list and know that you aren’t leaving anything out.
The second tip on our list is to not delete any shots. In this day and age of digital cameras, most photographers use them.Great as they are, they might tempt you to delete a shot they may like that you don’t since it is so easy to do.Don’t bother even peeking at the previews.Remember, what you think is a great shot, could be vastly different than what the couple thinks is a great shot. You never know, they might like all those so called un “professional shots.
For the the third tip, make sure you get candid shots during and after the wedding.A good wedding photographer doesn’t look to just take your typical shots, like group shots, or wedding shots or your standard newly married shots. But they will also try and capture the emotions of the day through the shots of all the people that were there. And that includes some of the things that could go wrong, like a flower girl not making it all the way to the front, or the ring bearer dropping the rings.Every photo matters.
The fourth one to consider, and something that can easily be overlooked is to make sure you have several cameras with several lenses as backup. Do you even want to imagine having a camera stop working halfway through the day.Plan for the worst that could go wrong.By being ready with extra equipment, you will avoid the uncomfortable time of not being able to take any more pictures of the wedding day with a broken camera.
Lastly, make sure to practice for your lighting. Don’t get thrown a curveball by the different lighting conditions whether inside the church or outside, practice and you will be prepared. Think about seeing if you can go to the locations of the big day and look for the best spots to take pictures as well as study the lighting needs.
Taking these 5 tips into account will help you immensely. It will prepare you for whatever might go wrong, it will prepare you for capturing what goes right, and it will prepare you to help contribute to this wonderful day by being the best photographer you can be. Take it from my years of experience as a San Diego photographer.
How to Choose a Good Wedding Photographer
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on June 14th, 2009
The wedding day will probably be one of the most important times that occur for a person’s life. Hours and hours go into all of the planning for the wedding. Probably all of the list of things to do in wedding planning are frustrating, stressful, and time consuming. That is why it is so important to do some homework and find the right people for all of the jobs. One of the critically important jobs will be for the photographer. From my experience as a San Diego wedding photographer I’ll show you it can be a few simple steps away.
Finding any wedding photographer is a huge task. There are several things to take into account when trying to make this important decision. The photos that you take away from your wedding are going to be the most memorable keepsakes that you have. The photos will be all over your walls for the rest of yourlife. One very obvious factor in deciding which photographer to choose is price. A lot of photographers will charge you a certain price for a specific lenght of time for the wedding. It is important to know what will be included with that price up front
price. When it comes to finding a wedding photographer, the biggest upside to pricing is there is a lot of competition. Remember, that a lot of photographers can and will negotiate their price a little bit to fit what you need.
Another thing to think about and consider when choosing is the experience a person may have. Is this their first wedding job, or have they done a few? Their price may reflect how long they have been in business as well. Just because someone has a lot of experience doesn’t always mean they will be better. A lot times people that are just starting out and are trying to build a reputation for themselves will turn out to be great. The advantage of a person like that and going with them is you know they are going to give it their best. In your search for a wedding photographer, you are going to find different levels of experience between them. Having a photographer do an interview can give you a good idea of what it will be like working with them.
A final thing to think about when you prepare to make that decision is what kind of personality does the photographer have. Are they likely going to try call all the shots and decide on all your poses? Or will they allow the bride and groom to make some decisions? The other thing to think about is do you want to be the one to make the decisions on the photos. The bride and groom will have enough to think about the day of the wedding as it is. Take all of these factors into consideration when you choose your photographer. If you do, you will have some wonderful photos to cherish the rest of your lives. Take it from me, your experienced San Diego photographer.
