If In Any Doubt, 7 Tips On Changing From A PC To A Mac
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on January 21st, 2012
Six months back I ultimately made the change. I changed from a COMPUTER to a Mac. Having used a PC for nearly 20 years, I thought I’d share my experiences and provided 7 tips on this changing experience.
I first thought about having a Mac about 2 years before I eventually made the purchase. As somebody concerned in corporate web design, making the right PC purchase is very important.
My Dell portable was grinding to a halt. So , I started doing some research on the Mac. I started comparing the price of a Mac vs a PC and discovered that the Mac was significantly dearer than a replacement COMPUTER.
The Technical Specifications of Each Alternative
I began to compare the hard drive space, the memory, the processor speeds and the screen sizes. Also what were critical were the external ports such as USB drives and the DVD and CD recording capacities.
The specs of both appeared to be the same, so why don’t you treat myself to a shiny new Mac laptop computer.
Then I started shopping around to find the closest stockists and if they have the product in stock I was looking for. I might have purchased online but felt such a giant investment deserved a face to face visit.
So off I drove to the closest store with cash in my wallet ready to make my purchase.
After reading in-store and playing around the keywords and the interface, I was prepared to pick up the product when a sales consultant asked if he could help me.
I told him I was switching from a Personal computer to a MAC. It was at that point my doubts crept in. He basically put forward all the reasons why I should stick with a Computer and an hour later I ended up walking out with a new Personal computer laptop.
That was 2 years ago. Since then I migrated over to the iPhone and I acquired an iPad. Looking back, moving straight from a PC to a Mac would be a huge leap into the dark and learning. Yes, having experience of other Apple products has helped. But when I eventually did make the move to the Mac, here are the 7 tips I want to share.
1. Our greatest fear lies in anticipation
We all fear change and the unknown and switching devices can fill us with fear. When you conquer this fear and make the leap you are made to learn quickly. Looking backwards, it isn’t that difficult.
2. Cost is a factor
Personal computers are less expensive and the higher priced alternative is clearly a stumbling block. However the longer battery life and the continuing integrating with other mobile devices saves me time and doubtless money in the long term. Treat yourself you deserve it.
3. Will I be able to use my P.C based software
I had to do a little analysis before I made my new purchase to discover if my older software was compatible. I had to get a new licence for my world processing and spreadsheet software. Apart from that, each programme I used had Mac based choices I could download as part of my original purchase licence. Presently many pieces of software are built on Adobe Air that has compatibility with both systems.
4. What about my old documents and files
I acquired an external hard drive and transferred all my old files over. So now all I do is slot in the external hard drive to my USB port to access these old files. Very simple and really easy.
5. What about the keyword and commands?
In took my about one week to grasp some of the new keyboard commands. Also bear in mind that to enlarge and minimise document windows you use the top left hand side of a window instead of the top right hand side with the windows operation system. Control and copy and control and paste are now command copy and command paste.
The only upsetting feature missing is not having up and back down buttons on the keyboard.
6. What of my email?
E-mail uses standard protocols like pop and imap. All you have got to know are your settings. Find your email settings and then set up your account with the built in mail program. It is actually that simple.
7. Dive in and start
The day I acquired my new PC, I opened it up and inside 5 minutes was working. I started on a new piece of work and I was emailing, instant messaging and making internet-based phone calls within the hour.

Apple Disciples Will Have To Wait For IOS And IPad Up-date
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on December 10th, 2010
Apple fanatics waiting for an iPad update will just have to hold back. The new version of iOS has been postponed. The delay is due to some software bugs making iOS 4.2 difficult to connect with Wi-Fi. The release from Apple is now rumored to hit on Thanksgiving.
No iPad update until Thanksgiving
The release of the iOS 4.2 is going to be on November 24. There’s a good chance that until then, there won’t be an iPad update. The rumors for the delay have been that there was a software bug although there haven’t been any statements made by Apple. Wi-Fi connections are interfered with by a defect which is what the problem allegedly is. There hasn’t been a new release date scheduled although November 12 had been the original release date. The newest version coming out in November is the only thing that Apple had said. The release date had been never for sure.
Seeing the newest iTunes for all
Those who love Apple have something to make the iOS 4.2 delays seem better. A new version of iTunes has come out. The iOS 4.2 will probably be needed for the newest iTunes 10.1 and each feature about this to work although it will work with iOS 4.1. AirPrint and AirPlay are both features of the brand new operating system update and iTunes update. Connections between Apple products are better with these programs. Documents can be sent from AirPrint to home computers with Wi-Fi. The iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Mac computers will all be able to do this. AirPlay will enable users to send streaming video from iOS devices to AppleTV boxes.
Multitasking the central feature
One of the central features of iOS 4.2 is supposed to be an enhancement of multitasking features in Apple devices, especially thanks to improved networking capabilities between Apple devices over wireless connections. Holiday shoppers will likely be glad to determine that right before Black Friday 2010 the iOS update will finally be out.

The Sat Nav Purchase
Posted by Goldy in Computer Hardware, Gaming, Play Station 3 on February 20th, 2010
Having my dad just purchase the Sat Nav I can now give the full detailed verdict on the product. He was lucky enough to actually get this for free as his company paid for it but there have been several issues that we have had to take on with it so far.
The product is a brilliant idea for anyone who is bored of getting out a map at every corner or perhaps on the verge of a divorce because the wife is still giving out the wrong directions. The real problem is that it turns into your wife because if it makes a mistake it then blames you for it by saying turn around, turn around, turn around (you get the idea). There has even been an instance in which it attempted to lead us onto a road that wasn’t there.
Another issue with the product is that it is being used for the simplest of trips and because you are busy waiting for the voice to say “turn left” or “speed camera” it actually ends up taking longer than it would without it. I
The Sat Nav can be useful if you are on you way into another country. When you are in a foreign country it can be nice to be told the directions by somebody other than your wife or someone you do not understand.
Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Of course you could get gadget insurance as this actually sets out to cover you against other things like phones and games consoles. It is not always necesscary to take out that extra laptop insurance

Iphone- Play A Guitar On It
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on December 19th, 2009
There are so many people out there that have bought the iphone simply because of all of the great music capabilities that it contains like the ipod and spotify and now this has reflected through the app store. If I am totally honest, I only got the phone because my pockets were always overflowing with phones, i-pods and wallets but it turns out it is a very useful phone indeed.
There are now several different apps that are available to download for fans of Guitars as well as the fans of things like Rock Band. You can actally get a Rock Band app for £5.99 which is stupid because out in America it works out a lot cheaper, we are always gettign ripped off over here. Although everything can be done on the app in the same way that it can be done in the console game, singing is done by tapping and not actually singing which is a bit of a shame. There is even a possibility that you can download a few extra songs just like you can in the game, more money for the big companies.
However if you do not want to pay for this kind of thing, there are plenty of free apps but obviously you are not going to get something as good as the paid options. There are also cheaper options to the official Rock Band app which may be worth looking into.
Fir fans of Acoustic Guitars or Electric Guitars then there are guitar tuning apps for you and most of which are actually free.
Other apps provide you with information on the instruments as well as some even offering quizzes. Some of the quizzes are quite good as they ask you to name that guitar rift or provide a series of questions from rock history that you and your friends can compete in together over Wi-Fi access.
Why not go into the app store today and take a look at some of the brilliant apps that are out there on the market.
