The HP 1018 Printer and Its Functions
Posted by Goldy in Computer Hardware on April 5th, 2010
The HP LaserJet 1018 printer using HP LaserJet 1018 printer toners and its features reveal a monochrome laser jet printer that seems to have been designed by Hewlett-Packard to work in a home office or small office. At this task, it does exceedingly well, as do most HP printers designed for business-type applications. It is able to produce professional-looking letters and documents with very nice and high quality text as well.
In the industry, this laser printer was known as being the smallest around for quite some time. It also listed for about $150 before discounts, making it an exceptional value for the price. In looking at the overall dimensions of the 1018, one is instantly impressed by its light weight (11 pounds) and how nicely it snuggles up to a computer on a desktop, which is the environment it seems most suited to.
Print speed with the 1018 is acceptable at 12 pages per minute using HP cartridge; the 1018 is really not a speed demon in this regard. Perhaps that might be due to the fact that the printer works so hard to deliver excellent quality printing by using its 234 MHz processor to the fullest in order to fulfill that role, which helps to explain its relatively low rate of print speed.
In looking at the 1018 as a whole, after taking it out of the box, it’s clear that it will also be fairly easy to get up and running and pretty much no time at all. It’s a “plug and play” printer, meaning that it will install its software drivers and owners manual directly after it’s been plugged into the computer via means of its USB port. There’s no cable, though, so make sure to pick one up.
Generally speaking, the 1018 handles just about any sort of text printing job that can be thought of and everything will look good right down to some of the smaller fonts, such as four point, one will be considering using in business applications. Even graphics come out looking fine enough for general internal business use using HP LaserJet 1018 replacement toners, which this printer is designed to do quite well.
The 1018 is designed to run off of most Windows-based operating systems, including Windows XP and Windows Vista (both 32-bit and 64-bit). The main input tray can hold 150 sheets of paper and it has a priority feed slot that can take up to 10 sheets of paper. It will be able to handle most sizes and kinds of paper, as well as envelopes, labels and certain custom sized media products.
Print resolution offered by the 1018 is fine enough at 600 dots per inch. It usually only takes about 10 seconds for the first page of any print job to emerge after it has been sent to the printer from the computer. Hewlett-Packard includes an image enhancement technology tool that helps to double resolution up to 1200 dots per inch. It has a duty cycle of about 3000 single-sided pages per month, which gives it a fair amount of durability.
In all, especially given its price (new models are currently going for around $250 with refurbished units able to be found for as little as $110), the HP LaserJet 1018 printer is well within the reach of even the most budget-limited small business or home office entrepreneur. Hewlett-Packard delivers decent print speed and excellent quality in the print product, making this a fine printer for most customers. Compatible toner will need to be purchased occasionally. HP LaserJet 1018 compatible toner is cheapest online. Just find a website that sells HP cartridges and you should be set.
