The Art of Rap Beat Making
Posted by Goldy in Uncategorized on November 28th, 2009
Without persistence or talent, many wannabe rappers give up the ghost early. Having persistence as well as a sprinkling of talent will help no end in your ambitions to succeed though. Many of today’s rappers originated from their city’s ghettos, but they didn’t let social adversity get in the way of their ambitions. Having the right attitude when it comes to rap music will allow you to succeed in no time at all. Consistency, persistence and the will to succeed are the best things for a successful rapping career.
There happen to be three main sounds you have to learn before making hip hop beats. The drum kick, the hi hat and the snare drum are all these sounds. The drum kick sound is a forceful sound and can be made bolder by adding vibrations. This sound is known as a B sound. Hi hat sound is made from TS sound, while snare sounds come from PSH sound.
While practising using these sounds in sequence is the best way to go. The best sequence to start with is the B, TS, PSH and TS sequence. Practise these sounds on a continual basis until such a time that you are not confused with the series and until the rhythm is ingrained into your mind. And when you have become proficient at them you can try other combinations. Eventually you will be proficient enough to make your own rap beats. Just remember though, the rhythm is the most important thing you have to learn. And once this has been mastered, trying to compose a song will be simple. Mistakes will be made during your journey, but don’t get too hung up about them. Practise, practise and practise even more and at the end of the day you will become master of your own destiny. To conclude I would like to add that making beats is not so easy as most of us think.
