Some tips on auto repair and passing a smog check

One of the things everyone who owns a car must do is maintain it.If you choose to not maintain your car regularly you will end up having expensive auto repairs for your car.If you really make it a habit of not paying attention to it, you will probably fail a smog check. With the consequences of failing a smog check also comes auto repair costs that will be expensive. Or you might even not be able to drive your car.  So we are going to look at a couple of things you must do to make sure you don’t have these things happen to you.

First of all as stated earlier in the last paragraph you have to do a good job of maintaing your car.  All my clients of my San Diego auto repair shop I stress to them how important it is to bring their car in regularly. What regular maintenance of your car does, is it allows us to find problems before it is too late. And like most things including auto problems, the sooner it is fixed, the less you will have to pay.

Another thing I emphasize as important is the need to have regular oil changes.  Failing to do that is sometimes the root cause of why my clients fail in my San Diego smog check service shop.  But if they consistently do this one simple thing their car will run smoother. On top of that, when you have an engine that is well oiled, it lasts longer.

Finally the brakes are a part of your car that is overlooked so often.  This is one part of the car that is always used but often overlooked.  Whenever a customer of mine brings in a car to my San Diego brake service it is sometimes one of the most expensive repairs. So I emphasize the importance of taking better care of it in the future.Doing certain simple steps like making sure the fluids are at good levels.

So those are just some simple things you can do to help yourself in avoiding big expensive auto repairs.Plus it will also make it easier to pass your next smog check.

Important maintenance tips for your car

Taking care of cars is one of the things that people have a problem with. One main reason for this is because cars are made well. They perform well for a long time that people tend to neglect maintaining them. But just like all things here on earth you still need to take great care of it.If you do not take care of it then you will hae more problems about your car in the long run.So here are some important things you need to do to your car to keep it running well.

First of all you have to have regular tune ups.  When people bring their cars into my San Diego auto repair shop I try to emphasize this to them.Regular tune ups can do a lot of good to your car.Well, obviously, it can keep all the parts in very good condition.  But it also will help you spot problems early. And just with everything else detecting early signs of problems would prevent it from worsening. When it comes to cars you should want to detect those early problems.Because once it worsens it becomes more expensive.

The next thing you want to do is keep the oil changed regularly. If you don’t you will have an engine that runs bad.An engine that runs bad means a lot of problems.Failure of a smog test is one result of these problems. Whenever I have a car fail in my San Diego smog check shop a lot of times I see they never changed their oil regularly. You can also destroy your engine if you do not regularly change oils.

Another thing you want to stay on top of are your brakes.Brakes are one part of the car that can be very expensive to fix.  The solution is to not let it break.  So I have all my clients of my San Diego brake shop make sure they maintain their brakes.

So those are some of the important reminders you must regularly do if you own a car.Proper maintenance would be good for your car in the long run.

3 tips to avoid costly transmission problems

One of the most expensive parts of the car to be repaired is the transmission. Damaging your transmission can cost several thousand dollars.  The sad part about all that is that it can be avoided.Of course, you just can’t avoid all car problems.  But if you follow these 3 tips you can increase your chances of avoiding it.

So the first tip would be to always observe your car. This tip is free but you should always do.What I mean when i say pay attention is to look out for leaking fluids.  Is it shifting gears roughly?  Those are signs of problems. All my clients of my San Marcos auto repair always get a list of what they should look out for between maintenance.

Second tip is also free.  It is also something you have total control of.That is, taking care of your cars by driving well.  A lot of people drive their car hard.  They don’t realize that they need to care for it like anything else.  A lot of the times the cars that need to be repaired in my Carlsbad auto repair shop you can tell which cars weren’t taken care of.Usually, it also means that they would spend more on repairs. So do the right thing and take care and regularly maintain your car.

Final tip does cost money.  But spending money will save you money in the long run.  And that is preventative maintenance. You must bring your car to auto shops for a regular check up.Just like when people go to doctors for a checkup of their health. That would be the same for your cars where you should take your car in regualrly for maintenance.  That way you can avoid problems. And you could also catch minor problems at its early stages. The earlier you can detect problems would be good since there would be less expenses on repairs.

So follow these tips wisely.  It is what I give to all my clients of my Carlsbad auto repair.  It saves them money.

Have your car’s transmission undergo regular checkup

Cars now have more durable materials as compared before.Even cars that are considered a sub-par car before last longer these days. But even if cars are more durable now problems still happen from time to time.A transmission problem is one of the biggest problems a car can acquire.  Not only is it one of the biggest problems but it can also be one of the most expensive.

So here are some things to look for that I have learned running my San Marcos transmission repair company.  First of all you want to keep good transmission fluid levels. If you do forget or intentionally do not do this then your transmission would be burnt up in no time.  So always use your dipstick to check fluid levels.  Make sure it is a good level.

Second while you are checking it you want to check to see if it is dirty.  A dirty transmission fluid could be signs of a problem.Have your car checked immediately if you see any black fluid or if it already dirty.  I get cars in all the time at my Carlsbad transmission repair shop that have this problem. But since they brought it in for checkups earlier they were able to avoid more costly repairs.

So if you decide to do the maintenance yourself you should be cautious.Be sure to buy the right type of fluid for your car’s transmission when you plan to change fluids. It can be surprising but people make mistakes and they sometimes put in a wrong type of fluid.  If someone were to do this it could burn up your transmission immediately.  So when changing your fluids take extra care to put in the right one.  I tell all my clients of my San Marcos auto repair shop when in doubt just have professionals do it for you.It makes sense because this part of your car is very expensive to replace.

So if you follow these few pointers you may be able to maintain your transmission.Following the steps mentioned above will save you a lot of money and it just takes a little while to do.

How to not lose money in auto repair

All of us know that it is expensive to have our car fixed and maintained. If it is still new you wouldn’t have problems on spending a lot on maintenance and repairs.  But as it ages it will need more care.So let’s look at the ways to avoid spending too much when going to an auto shop.

In my San Diego auto repair shop I hear so many stories of people getting ripped off when they take their car to an auto shop.  From paying too much or getting repairs they don’t need, it happens all the time.So what could be done to avoid these things happening to you?Maintaining your car in a very good shape is the best thing you can do.  Don’t wait till a problem happens.  Keep your car in good shape.

One of the best ways to keep your car in shape is to have regular tune ups. This prevents any problems sneaking up on you.Your engine will also be running smoothly when you do this.Making your car undergo regular tune-ups will save a lot of money on repairs. Not properly tuning up your car can lead to many problems like not passing smog.  I have seen older cars in my San Diego smog check shop that if they were taken care of they would have passed the smog test. This may lead to more complications.

Another part of the car that gets neglected is the brakes. The brakes are the part of the car that can surprise a lot of people. It suprises them when they find out how expensive it is to repair.  Believe me, I see the look on the faces of my customers of my San Diego brake shop when they see how expensive it can be.But if they just took good care of the brakes of their car they could have avoided it.

The bottom line is take care of your car if you want to avoid getting ripped.  A properly maintained car will have less problems for shops to say is wrong with it.

How to save money in your car

Today many Americans are looking for ways to save money. With the current state of the economy who can blame them. They find ways to get rid of extra expenses.Possibly they might start to not go out as much.  Don’t buy things they don’t need. But I would like to examine a way that might not have crossed your mind. That way you can find with your car.

When people think of saving money with their cars, they think of gas. They try to come up with ways of spending less money on gas.  But I would like to suggest if you maintain your car you can save more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With a lot of cars people in general don’t think of doing maintenance. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late.  They wait for something to go wrong or break down.  But from my experience waiting till that point makes the auto repair more expensive.

As an example let look at your brakes. If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs. If you fail to, you are going to have disc brakes that will be expensive to repair.  Or you might have  to replace the brake shoes.By using your brakes properly and then maintaining them you will save yourself some money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like the brake fluid and checking it to make sure it has enough.

Or people don’t get tuneups with their car.  They let the engine go.  They don’t change the oil as much as they should. This leads to your cars engine running bad.So poorly that it isn’t going to pass a smog check.  From what I have seen running a smog test San Diego shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape. The engine can then run properly and much smoother.  Wait to long and you will spend more money then you wanted.

Hopefully this gave you some good ideas that maintaining your car can actually save money. Spend less now and you will get to spend less in the future.

Using your car to save money

Today most Americans are trying to find ways to save more of their money.  With the way the economy is you can’t blame them.  They look at cutting expenses.Or they might not go out as much. They aren’t going out and buying things of no use.But I would like to examine a way that might not have crossed your mind. That way you can find with your car.

When most people think of their cars and saving money it usually involves saving gas. They try to come up with ways of spending less money on gas.But what I would like to offer is the fact that if you keep your car properly maintained you can save a lot more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With cars in general a lot of people don’t even consider maintaining it. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late. They wait for their car to have something go wrong or something to break down. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

Your brakes let examine for instance.  If you properly maintain your brakes you can avoid costly repairs.  If you don’t you can  have expensive discs you have to repair.Or you might find the need to have the brake shoes replaced.By using your brakes properly and then maintaining them you will save yourself some money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like the brake fluid and checking it to make sure it has enough.

Or most people don’t bother getting their car tuned up.  They let the engine go.They aren’t doing an oil change as much as they are supposed to. This leads to your cars engine running bad.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a smog test San Diego shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape. The engine can then run properly and much smoother.Wait longer then you should and you will end up spending a lot more money then expected.

What to look for in used cars

Well the decade of wealth and exuberance is gone. For a lot of Americans excessive items like a new car is a thing of the past. Now when a family is in need of a new car they are forced to look into buying a used car.  This is evident in all of the financial problems the big 3 carmakers are having. There sales have plummetted.

But families will still be needing a form of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice.  That alternative is used cars.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you have decided to buy that used car, you do not want to purchase a lemon. So by making sure there is proper inspectino performed, you can avoid most expensive repairs.

So when you are looking over these cars remember these couple of items to inspect.First you will want to inspect the brakes.  We do San Diego brakes in our shop.So I have seen firsthand that needing your brakes repaired is an expensive option. If you buy an auto that the owners didn’t take care of the brakes, that could lead to very expensive repairs.Last thing you want to happen is the need to get the entire braking system replaced. So be sure you have good brakes.

Second you want to make sure it is running clean.Another way to say it, can it pass the smog test.  In my business I do smog test in San Diego.  The last thing you want is to purchase a car that will need expensive repairs.Especially if the repairs are going to involve any emmission problems.

If you buy a car that is unable to pass a smog check, that won’t be good.It is a sign of a previous owner not taking care of it.What most likely occured is they didn’t do any maintenance on it.  These could lead to more problems in the long run.

If you just check out these few items you can save money. By not checking you can be in for some major repairs. When you need to save money, I am pretty sure you don’t want that.

Brake Maintenance Tips

One of the things taken for granted in this world is driving a car.  It has become routine and for some people a mindless activity. You see people doing all kinds of things like doing makeup, reading, or talking on the phone, etc. while driving.

But if you really thought about it, your life is on the line everytime you drive a car.Whoever is at fault isn’t the focal point of this article, but accidents do happen.

One cause of accidents, although seldom does it happen, is brakes failing.Your brakes is definitely one of the parts of your vehicle that is very important.Unfortunately, if it’s out of sight it is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes qualifies definitely as being out of sight. But it is the one car part that regular maintenance is a must.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, your’s and your family’s life and safety depends on it.

With that in essence being the case, maintaining your breaks can be quite easy. You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.

Either way, the two things to look at for brake maintenance is brake fluid level and brake pad condition. If you follow these two points vigilantly, you will ensure your brakes are safe.

When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level.  It is usually marked and has a ‘min’ line and a ‘max’ line.Make sure that the fluids are not below the ‘min’ line and you will not have any problems.

Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear. If it isn’t, you will have to perform a flushing of the brakes and put in new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy maintenance. The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Most of the times your brake pads will let you know that they need to be replaced by making that loud screeching sound during braking.

If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.

With your safety and your passenger’s safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

Following these maintenance steps will ensure your car is safe for all driving conditions.

Know What to do Before a Smog Check

In our time we live in, the car is practically a life necessity next to food and shelter. And with our natiional economy such as it is, everybody is trying to keep their cars longer.

Well when you find this happening and your car is older, it will be time to learn some things in regards to car maintenance.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is when your car needs a smog check. Until your car hits seven years old, most people don’t even think about it.

But be warned, if you do fail the smog check, what was supposed to be a small $50 smog check suddenly turns into a huge auto repair bill.

When you have to have your car pass the smog check so you can renew the registration, follow these bits of advice to ensure your car passes the smog check.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, make every effort to ensure your vehicle is running right. If your vehicle is not running correctly, get it to an autor service shop as soon as possible so they can see if their is a problem. Then have it fixed before your smog test.

Second, an easy but necessary tip, take a drive.Remember passing the smog test means your car needs to burn fuel efficiently with as little or no smog emmissions a possible.  Well when your car is not properly warmed up, it may not have proper combustion.  If that happens, you stand a chance of failing.Just take it for a drive for 15 minutes or so and you will get your car to run optimally when it is taken in.

Third, start using fuel additives.  You do this whenever you fill your car up with gas.You just put it into the gas tank. What’s going to happen is this gets the emmission levels lower because it cleans the intake of your car and exhaust paths. This makes it possible for the fuel and air to freely flow.

Fourth, inflate your tires to proper pressure.  This little tip will help your vehicle drive with greater stability and accuracy during the smog test. This greatlly improves the emmission’s overall output because it helps the engine maintain a steady load.

Finally, have your oil changed. If the oil in your car does need to be changed and is contaminated, this can be a cause of failure when you take it for a smog test. Oils that are contaminated have high hydrocarbons and that will cause you to fail the test.

Follow our guidlelines and tips and you are going to have a good chance of passing the smog check with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.
